At Love for Hope, we are committed to providing holistic development for children by addressing all aspects of their growth.
Our initiative, “Iga Mwana,” focuses on reducing school dropouts by collaborating with schools, teachers, and community leaders to identify and address the root causes. Common issues include the lack of scholastic materials, school fees, and medical support. Thanks to partnerships with individuals like Mr. Dale and organizations such as KLM, we have successfully provided students with scholastic materials, covered medical insurance, and offered children with school feeding/fees support. Despite these efforts, challenges still persist in fully supporting a child’s academic journey.
We have embraced government initiatives like “Tubarere & Tubagororere Mu Muryango” to assist in the reintegration of children in street situation into their families. Given our focus on vulnerable children, particularly those living on the streets, this program is crucial. Our efforts extend beyond reintegration; we also provide ongoing psychosocial support to both the children and their families. Additionally, we offer assistance for rent, food, and healthcare needs, ensuring a stable environment for the children’s reintegration and continued growth.
Through these comprehensive programs, Love for Hope actively supports the government’s efforts while addressing critical gaps in child welfare and advocacy. Our approach not only aids in immediate needs but also fosters a supportive community for the sustained development of vulnerable children.
Rwanda has made significant strides in recovering from its tumultuous past, yet challenges remain, especially for its younger population. Many Rwandan children continue to face hurdles that stem from poverty, lack of access to quality education, and inadequate healthcare. Issues such as high school dropout rates and the vulnerability of children in street situation are particularly pressing. These challenges are compounded by systemic problems like insufficient child protection policies and limited community support for at-risk youth.
Rwanda has implemented various initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of children. Government programs and collaborations with NGOs have focused on increasing school enrollment rates, enhancing child protective services, and providing healthcare. Efforts have been made to reintegrate children in street situation into society, improve educational infrastructure, and support families to maintain children in school. While these efforts have yielded positive outcomes, gaps still exist, particularly in the comprehensive support of children’s rights and addressing the root causes of their vulnerabilities.
Love for Hope’s approach to Child Welfare and Advocacy in Rwanda aims to address these gaps by fostering a comprehensive support system for children. Our programs are designed not just to tackle the symptoms of the issues but to engage deeply with the root causes:
We work closely with parents, local schools and community leaders to identify barriers to education such as negative mindset, financial constraints and lack of materials. Our interventions provide targeted support, including scholarships, school supplies, and medical insurance, to ensure that children can consistently attend and excel in school.
For children on the streets, Love for Hope initiates rehabilitation programs that not only aim to reintegrate them into their families but also provide necessary psychosocial support. By collaborating with parents/guardians, teachers, local authorities and organizations, we ensure that these children receive comprehensive care that addresses their physical, emotional, and intellectual needs.

Recognizing the role of stable family environments in child development, our programs extend support to families. This includes rent assistance, food aid, healthcare support and IGA thus creating a conducive environment for children to thrive.
By integrating these targeted strategies into our broader child welfare and advocacy efforts, Love for Hope Ministry addresses both the immediate needs and the long-term development goals of children in Rwanda. Our holistic approach ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow into a productive and empowered member of society.

We implement a strategy to transition children from the streets to our center which serves as a gateway to their homes and schools. This process unfolds in four stages:
We meet the children where they are, drawing inspiration from Jesus’ mission to seek and save the lost, much like the parable of the lost sheep. This step is the basis of our evangelism, fulfilling the command to believers- ‘to go into the world and preach the good news’— which is similar to the mandate God gave, – “To go and tell God’s people to go all over the world and preach the Good news”.
Through our compassionate approach, we forge loving relationships with the children. As God embodies love and commands us to love, we share this divine love with the children, instilling hope for their future. Our interactions are not only about filling them with love but also teaching them to love others.
Then we bring them to the Love for Hope center, where we engage the children in various activities such as sports, games, music, dance, drama, Christian movies, Bible stories, and hygiene practices like washing clothes and bathing. We also share meals and prayers with them. These activities deepen our bond with the children and allow us to observe their attitudes & behaviors, helping us to tailor strategies that support their development. The center serves as a gateway to their homes and schools. This means that the center is not a place for them to stay permanently; rather, it serves as a daytime interaction point while we explore ways to reintegrate them into their families or foster homes. This rationale underpins the plans for the creation of sports centers, which serve as both attractive and transitional spaces leading them back to their homes and schools. Sports have proven to be effective tools for attraction and transformation, particularly for young people.
In collaboration with local leaders, we reconnect the children with their families and schools. We emulate Jesus’ promise to never leave nor forsake us by sticking with them throughout their journey, supported by our follow-up activities, until the family and the child are stable enough to stand and carry on by themselves.”
We establish small groups for the parents of vulnerable children, particularly those in the street situation. In these groups, we offer psychosocial support including parenting counseling to address challenges faced by these parents. This support aims to tackle issues such as poverty, negative behaviors in children, and poor parenting practices. Additionally, we provide financial literacy training, such as starting savings schemes, and offer supplemental support for their income-generating activities and ensure their sustainability. All these efforts are directed towards enhancing the well-being of the child.
3.Health and Nutrition
We pay health insurance to facilitate the vulnerable children and their families to access of medication services(Mutuelle de santé)
We feed children through our feeding program at the center and also support the vulnerable families with food supplies to ensure that the children are fed in the home.
4.Participation and Empowerment
We create platforms and forums where children can express their opinions and vote on matters affecting them within the organization.
We Implement leadership training and development programs for children to enhance their capacity in decision-making roles.
These strategies aim to ensure that our organization’s activities are not only aligned with child rights but are also effectively implemented to achieve maximum impact in promoting and protecting the rights of children.
